The Mercer County Democratic County Convention was held Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at 7 p.m. at the Aledo Depot, 204 SE 2nd Ave., Aledo. There were 14 precinct committeemen in attendance: Pete Guyton (Richland Grove 1 Precinct); Larry Weber (Richland Grove 2 Precinct); Gary Gregg (Greene 1 Precinct); Jerry Stead (Greene 2 Precinct); Larry P. Adams (Preemption 2 Precinct); Linda Fordham (Mercer 1 Precinct); Richard E. Maynard (Mercer 2 Precinct); Richard E. Maynard, Jr. (Mercer 4 Precinct); Terrence Bewley (Mercer 5 Precinct); Jim Edwards (Mercer 6 Precinct); Troy Russell (Abington Precinct); Talbert Balmer (Millersburg Precinct); Bradley Long (New Boston Precinct) and Montie Schell (Eliza Precinct).
The meeting was chaired by county chairman, Richard E. Maynard. Maynard asked if anyone wanted to be considered for Chairman nomination or if anyone objected to the present chairman being the moderator for the night's convention. If so, in either case, he would appoint a moderator. No objections were voiced.
Richard E. Maynard was nominated chairman of Mercer County Democratic Central Committee with no other nominations . Monte Schell motioned that nominations close and Gary Gregg seconded. Motion passed 13-0 with Mr. Maynard abstaining. Richard E. Maynard is chairman of Mercer County Democratic Central Committee March 2010 through February 2012.
Nominations for Mercer County Democratic vice chairman of the Central Committee. Larry N. Weber was nominated with no other nominations. Bradley Long motioned nominations be closed with Linda Fordham seconding. Motion carried with no descending votes. Larry N. Weber is vice chairman of Mercer County Democratic Central Committee March 2010 through February 2012.
Linda K. Fordham was nominated for Mercer County Democratic treasurer of the Central Committee with no other nominations. Bradley Long motioned nominations be closed with Richard E. Maynard Jr. seconding. Motion carried with no dissenting votes. Linda K. Fordham is treasurer of the Mercer County Democratic Central Committee March 2010 thru February 2012.
Margaret L. Skarda was nominated for Mercer County Democratic secretary of the Central Committee with no other nominations. Bradley Long motioned nominations be closed with Pete Guyton seconding. Motion carried with no dissenting votes. Margaret L. Skarda is secretary of the Mercer County Democratic Central Committee March 2010 through February 2012.
Other business of the March 3, 2010 Mercer County Democratic Convention was the following:
• Andrew P. King was appointed committeeman for North Henderson Precinct and Sharon Simpson for Ohio Grove Precinct. The committeemen will continue trying to find someone interested in being appointed for Richland Grove 2 Precinct.
• Three delegates and three alternates for the Illinois State Democratic Convention to be held at Springfield in August 2010 were appointed. The delegates are Jim Edwards, Gary Gregg and Richard E. Maynard. Alternates are Richard E. Maynard, Jr., Jerry Stead and Larry Weber.
• The possibility of a Democratic candidate for the Henderson, Mercer, and Warren County Regional Superintendent of Schools vacancy was discussed and more will be decided on that soon.
