Members of the Aledo Volunteer Fire Department agreed Feb. 3 to cancel this year's firemans' ball. The ball has been a fund-raiser for the department for the past 85 years.

Aledo Fire Chief Dennis Litwiler said the ball hasn't been well attended the past few years and the department decided to try something new this year.

Litwiler said the department will have a fund-raiser later this year but what that will be hasn't been decided yet. "We've talked about this the past couple of years," said Litwiler. "It's not a good fund-raiser for us."
