Melvin A. Snyder, 87, of Galesburg, formerly of New Windsor and North Henderson, died Monday Jan. 11, 2010 at Marigold Rehab and Health Care Center in Galesburg.
Services were 2 p.m. Friday at the Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Alpha. Burial was in New Windsor Cemetery. Visitation took place from noon until time of services Friday at the funeral home where memorials may be left to the Calvary Lutheran Church in New Windsor. He was born Feb. 28, 1922 in Richfield, a son of Arthur and Imo Ryan Snyder. He attended the local schools and married Marian Plunkett in Feb. of 1950. She died in 1986.
Melvin farmed in the Orion, New Windsor and North Henderson areas for many years. His memberships include the Calvary Lutheran Church in New Windsor and he enjoyed quail hunting, sports, country music and visiting with friends and family.
He is survived by a son Alan (Mary) Snyder of Viola; a daughter-in-law Dawn Snyder of Wheaton; three grandchildren Erin, Whitney (Brian) and Grant; one sister Idella Rose Anderson of Moline; and one brother Merle Alfred Snyder of Atlantic, Iowa.
