Stanley I. Brown, 89, of Aledo, died Saturday Jan. 16, 2010 at Mercer County Hospital in Aledo. Graveside services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Candor Cemetery, rural Seaton, where Military graveside services will be conducted. Visitation took place from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo where memorials may be left to the American Legion Fallerans Post 121, Mercer County VFW Post 1571 or the Aledo United Methodist Church. He was born Sept. 20, 1920 in Woodhull, a son of Frank and Maude Bloomberg Brown. He attended the local schools and married Betty Van Eaton Nov. 21, 1947 in Galesburg. She died in 1988.
He married Evelyn M. Artcher May 26, 1990 in Aledo.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II serving with the 78th Infantry Division in the European Theatre including the Battle of the Bulge.
Stan’s career as an auto and farm mechanic started with the Woodhull Garage in Woodhull and later he worked at Wyckoff’s in Aledo. He then owned and operated Brown’s Garage in Seaton, for many years retiring in 1989.
His memberships include both the American Legion Post 121 and the VFW Post 1571. He enjoyed bowling, flower gardening, fishing, hunting and the outdoors.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; one daughter, Linda (Lloyd) Ford of Aledo; two sons, Wayne (Sarah) Brown of Hedrick, Iowa and Curt (Carol) Brown of Aledo; stepdaughters, Linda (Jim) Hilligoss of Atlanta and Terry (Dennis) Miller of Bouton, Tenn.; stepsons, Mark (Cheri) Artcher of Aledo and Randy Artcher of Dallas; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother Kenneth (Bernadine) Brown of Woodhull; two sisters-in-law Dorothy Brown and Miriam Landes both of Woodhull and several nieces and nephews.
His parents; wife Betty; three brothers Bernard, Merrill and Carroll and an infant sister preceded him in death.
