Mitchel Kinkaid, 78, of Aledo, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010 at Aledo Rehab & Healthcare Center. A memorial service was held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Speer Funeral Home. Services will be led by Wilbur Frieden, concluding with military honors conducted by the VFW Post #1571. Honorary bearers are Jim Dellitt, Dave Higgins, Bill Frieden, Brice Shrock, Breck Bigham and Richard Bigham. Visitation was Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the VFW Post #1571, Mercer County YMCA or the Aledo Fire Department.
Mitch was born on July 14, 1931 in Monmouth, to Archie & Mae (Graztmiller) Kinkaid. He was a 1950 graduate of Aledo High School. Mitch married Dorothy Benson on Dec. 26, 1953 in Aledo. She preceded him in death on July 19, 1961. He was also previously married to Beverly Ramsdell.
Mitch was a veteran of the Korean War. After serving his country, he became a lifetime member of the Mercer County VFW Post #1571. He was also a member of the Mercer County Farm Bureau and faithfully attended the Mercer County YMCA. He enjoyed watching golf and hunting big game. He brought back many trophies from his hunting trips to Africa, Canada, Alaska (Kodiac Island) and Wyoming.
Mitch is survived by a son: David (Mary) Kinkaid of Davenport, Iowa; daughter, Nancy (Jack) Schrock of Joy; three step-children: Cindy Bosaw of Alton; Patty Ramsdell of Florida and Ted Ramsdell of California; two grandchildren: Amber Dillbeck of Galesburg and Brice (Tara) Schrock of New Boston; four step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, Ayden Almaguer and Gracie Fisher. Mitch was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Dorothy.
