Many of the streets in downtown Rock Island will be closed beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3 in preparation for the Rock Island Grand Prix kart races presented by AT&T.
The foot of Luke Boucher lifted the Golden Eagles to a 31-28 victory over the Annawan-Wethersfield Titans Friday night. Boucher's field goal with 3.4 seconds remaining on the clock was a game winner.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced today that Mr. Richard Leopold has been selected as the Midwest Region’s Assistant Regional Director for Science Applications. Leopold is currently the Director of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Leopold is tentatively scheduled to report for his new position on Sep. 12, and will be stationed at the Midwest Regional Office in Ft. Snelling, Minn.
Sherrard High School is holding its Meet the Teams night Aug. 18. The dinner is available to purchase from the boosters at 5:30 p.m.
The 23rd annual New Windsor Rodeo Run will start at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 21. This is a two and four mile run/walk. Walkers are welcome. The race starts and finishes at the east entrance of the rodeo grounds. The location of the event is the New Windsor Ball Park/Rodeo Grounds on the west edge of New Windsor.
On Saturday, July 31 former players, alumni, colleagues, opponents, family and friends will gather to Roast and Toast “TG”. The event has been planned by former players as a way to show respect and honor their coach and mentor.

Apollo Elementary School students, parents and teachers recently enjoyed a Quad City River Bandits' game compliments of the Bandits' Book Buddies reading program. Students advanced to first, second, and third bases by attaining their reading goals. Upon reaching their home base goal, a free ticket to a game was awarded.
