Mercer Co. 4th grade girls basketball wraps up a winning season

The 4th grade girls basketball team went 23-2 this season.  They competed in the both the Alwood Youth League and the Western Illinois Youth Basketball League, defeating such teams as Galesburg, Knoxville, Monmouth Roseville, West Central, Princeville, ROWVA, Fulton, Alwood, United, Galva and Cambridge.  They were coached by Dawn Stineman.

Chargers close out Golden Eagles season

The Mercer County Golden Eagles season came to an end Tuesday night as they bowed out of the Orion Regional. The hosting Chargers defeated Mercer County 60-38.

Nelson and Morford advances to semifinals

Mercer County Golden Eagle Derrick Morford and Zach Nelson advanced to the semifinals with quarterfinal victories on Friday in the Class 1A Illinois State Wrestling Tournament.

Nelson and Morford advances with quarterfinal victories

Mercer County Golden Eagle Derrick Morford advanced Friday with a quarterfinal victory over Ben Pintar of Eureka, on a 4-3 decision. Morford is wrestling in the 138 pounds weight division at the Class 1A Illinois State wrestling tournament.
Zach Nelson also advanced at 152 pounds with a 19-4 tech fall decision ore Aaron Napoleon  of Clifton (Central) at 3:00 in the quarterfinals.

Morford advances with quarterfinal win

Mercer County Golden Eagle Derrick Morford advanced Friday with a quarterfinal victory over Ben Pintar of Eureka, on a 4-3 decision. Morford is wrestling in the 138 pounds weight division at the Class 1A Illinois State wrestling tournament.

In the preliminaries on Thursday Morford won a major decision over Brian Czyl of Lisle.

Morford is one of four Mercer County wrestlers to compete at the state level. Zach Nelson, at 152 pounds will wrestle later today.

Mercer County wrestlers split on Thursday

The Mercer County wrestlers had mixed results at the Class A State Wrestling meet preliminaries on Thursday.
Zach Nelson, at 152 pounds, advanced with a major decision over Monmouth-Roseville's Gage Hedges.
At 138 pounds Derrick Morford defeated Brian Czyl of Lisle by major decision, 9-0.
At 126 pounds Michael Harris of Althoff Catholic defeated Logan Snyder of Mercer County by major decision, 13-5.
At 132 pounds Chet McClure of Gibson City -Melvin-Sible defeated Tristen Finch of Mercer county 3-2.

Sherrard
At 195 pounds Alex Peterson of Wilmington defeated Chad Kirkhove of Sherrard 7-5.

Woods scores 31 in Golden Eagle rout

Colton Wood lit up the scoreboard Tuesday  night with 31 points as the Mercer County Golden Eagles beat United 54-43.

Golden Eagles lose heartbreaker on senior night

The Mercer County Golden Eagles fell on senior night to Kewanee, 60-58.
Mercer County led by as many as seven points in the fourth period but couldn't hold on for the victory.

Wood scores 34 in loss

The Annawan Braves held off the Mercer County Golden Eagles Tuesdaynight and scored a 70-63 victory.

This despite the efforts of Colton Wood who lit up the scoreboard with 34 points for the Golden Eagles. Wood recently passed the 1,000 point mark in scoring for the school.

Golden Eagles fall to Ridgewood

The Mercer County Golden Eagles fell to Ridgewood Wednesday night, 71-52. Mercer County fell to 5-20 overall while Ridgewood improved to 13-16.

Bob Mitton Invite postponed until Saturday

The Bob Mitton Invite has been posponed until Saturday morning at 8 a.m. according to Athletig Director Blake Von Holten. The tournament was supposed to have begun Friday evening.

United girls stun Mercer County, 54-31

The United girls basketball earned its second win of the season Wednesday night Jan. 18 in the Lincoln Trail Conference Tournament defeating Mercer County 54-31.

Golden Eagles compete in "Bob Mitton" Invite

Mercer County, Sherrard and Rockridge are  just three of the 17 area teems that will be competing in the 29th Annual "Bob Mitton" tournament Jan. 20 and 21 at Orion High School.

The ROWVA Tigers defeated  the Mercer County Golden Eagles 58-46 on Jan.

ROWVA's victory came despite a 27 point outburst by Golden Eagle Colton Wood who led all scorers.

Golden Eagles fall to Princes

The Mercer County Golden Eagles got off to a good start against Princeville Wednesday night but couldn't sustain it losing 54-39.

Rockets thump Golden Eagles, 72-50

The Rockridge Rockets defeated Mercer County 72-50 on Jan. 7.
The two teams fought to a 15-15 standstill in the opening period but the Rockets scored 22 points in the second quarter and took a 37-27 lead into the lockerroom at the half. After a 16-6 run in the third quarter Rockridge led 53-33 heading into the final period.

Golden Eagles blast West Prairie

The Mercer County boys basketball team defeated West Prairie 69-49 on Jan. 6.
The Golden Eagles improved to 5-9 with the victory while West Prairie fell to 1-13.

Heat stops Golden Eagles

The Mercer County Golden Eagles girls basketball team fell to West Central 61-56 on Jan. 4.
The Golden Eagles held a small 15-14 lead after the first quarter but trailed 32-27 by the end of the first half. West Central outscored Mercer County 15-13 in the third period and held a 47-40 lead after three quarters. The Golden Eagles outscored the Heat 16-14 in the final period.

ROWVA shuts down Golden Eagles

The ROWVA girls basketball team defeated Mercer County 56-34 on Monday, Jan. 2.
ROWVA held an 18-12 lead after the first quarter but shut Mercer County out in the second period to take a 32-12 lead into the break at the half. The Golden Eagles outscored ROWVA 12-9 in the third period but couldn't close the gap any further.
Scoring for Mercer County were: Bailey Krstic, 15; Michaela Baker, eight; B. Swanson and Bridget Anderson, four and Kimi Nelson, two.
Krstic led the Golden Eagles in steals with 10 and assists with two.
Marysa Remick of ROWVA led all scorers with 19 points while Megan Foglesong chipped in 13.
