Several Rockridge High School wrestlers have been diagnosed with a skin condition called Herpes Gladiatorum – commonly called “skin herpes.” This condition is caused by a virus that is spread specifically throught skin-to-skin contact and is common among wrestlers.
In response to this outbreak the decision has been made to cancel all Rockridge wrestling activities effective immediately, through Monday, Feb. 1, 2010. This includes all meets, tournaments and practices at all levels. The situation will be re-evaluated on Monday.
Please be assured that affected students area being treated appropriately and other members of the wrestling team are being monitored for additional outbreaks. This information only affects the wrestling program. The general student population is not at a high risk. Immediate measures are being taken to thoroughly clean affected areas as a precautionary measure.
