The Sherrard wrestling team defeated Riverdale 55-21 in the team's first match of the year, Nov. 24.
There is still a lot of work to do according to Sherrard head wrestling coach Jeff Garrett after the squad's season opening victory. "We are still pretty young."
Garret thought Derek Mizaur's victory over Lowe at 152 pounds stood out amongst the matches of the night. "I was hoping the heavyweight match would come out differently. Overall, I'm pleased. It was our first match of the year. Hopefully we got the jitters out."

At 171 pounds Chad Kirkhove (S) pinned Tyler Massey (R) in 3:33.
At 189 pounds Seth Whan (S) won by forfeit.
At 215 pounds Cody Congdon (S) won by forfeit.
At heavyweight Mitchell Keppy (R) pinned Eric Link, (S) at 1:19.
At 103 pounds Jacob Dillbeck (S) won by decision over Payton Grabel (R), 6-2.
At 112 pounds Ricky Vanderham (S) won by forfeit.
At 119 pounds Tyson Schulte (S) pinned Al Zimmer (R) at 5:32.
At 125 pounds Cody Cullor of Sherrard won by forfeit.
