The Mercer County District 404 Board of Education interviewed candidates for interim superintendent last night (Sept. 9) in closed session. A decision on who will head up the district the rest of this academic year is expected soon.

The board met in special session.

School Board President Julie Wagner said it's possible an interim superintendent could be ready for a vote by the board's regular meeting on Sept. 16.

"We're not exactly sure because we're working out details," Wagner said this morning. (Sept. 10) "It's (having a decision by Sept. 16) a possibility, but we still have to work out contract details and that sort of thing."

Wagner, who declined comment on how many candidates the board interviewed, said it may take a week to 10 days from the time of the meeting for a decision to be made.

Current Superintendent Alan Boucher, who has been at Mercer County for eight years, is leaving to take the same job in Sherrard District 200 on Oct. 2.
