He graduated from Aledo High School and the Univ. of Illinois. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp and proudly served his country from 1943 – 1946. Upon return from WWII, having served in France and Germany, he carried a bottle of Chanel #5 home in an Army sock as a present for his soon-to-be wife ---Mary Eastman. They were married in 1947.

After farming in Illinois for several years, the young couple moved to Colorado in 1953. Dick was co-owner of Highland Contractors and then of Western Pipe Supply in Boulder for many years. At retirement he was involved in the Longmont Kiwanis, a longtime volunteer at Longmont United Hospital and was a faithful servant at LifeBridge Christian Church. Dick and Mary were married for 70 years – until her death in 2017. He will be lovingly remembered by all as a quiet man of great integrity and faith.
