Janet Leone Carbaugh, 83 of Metamora, IL, died Tuesday March 5, 2019.

Jan was born Dec. 3, 1935 in Anaheim, CA to Harwood and Jeanie Larson.  She married Rev. Dr. James R. Carbaugh on Dec 15, 1957.  They would have been married 62 years this December.

She graduated from Occidental College, CA in 1957 with a bachelor’s in education, majoring in Philosophy.  She went on to earn her teaching credentials and spent time teaching geometry and upper level math classes.  When Jim retired from the Presbyterian Church in 1998, they moved to Metamora IL.  Jan was very active with the congregations that her husband was a minister.  She sang in the choir, played piano and taught Sunday school.  A few churches to note are Valentine Presbyterian Church in Valentine, NE, College Ave Presbyterian Church in Aledo IL, and Westminster Presbyterian Church, in Worthington, MN.

Jan spent her free time doing what she loved - playing the piano, reading, gardening, sudoku and being with her husband, Jim.  She was very involved in all the communities that Jim served as a pastor.  Some highlights included organizing a state-wide campaign to promote public television, serving as the high school and junior high music departments’ pianist, supporting the local theatre groups and serving as chairperson for the local Girl Scouts.  Most importantly, she was an outstanding mother and grandmother.

After suffering a major head trauma in 2012, Jan’s life was changed significantly.  In 2017, she moved to Heddington Oaks Nursing Home for extended care treatment.

Jan was preceded in death by her husband.  Survivors include her children: Carl Carbaugh - Largo Fla., Lyn (Christopher) Lear  - Bettendorf Iowa, Karin (Craig) Earl  - Washington Ill., Keith (Julie) Carbaugh  - Plymouth Wis.; and grandchildren: Carly Carbaugh, Sydney and Ethan Lear, Jessica and Hayley Earl, and Stephanie, Emily, Megan, Adam, and Teresa Carbaugh.

Per her wishes, Jan was cremated.  A family celebration of life will be held.  The family thanks everyone for their thoughts and prayers, with special thanks to the staff at Heddington Oaks for her care.
