Patrick M. McVeigh, 78, of Viola, IL died Saturday May 18, 2019 at Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island, IL. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Viola. Burial is in the St. John’s Cemetery in Viola. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the church where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. prior to visitation. He was born July 30, 1940 in rural New Windsor, Illinois to Martin and Mary Reedy McVeigh.  He graduated from Winola High School in 1958.    Pat married Nancy L. Bauwens July 2, 1966 in Milan, IL.

Pat farmed his entire life in the Viola area. 

He was a lifetime member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Viola, member of the Roll-A-Ways Square Dance Club and Mercer County Farm Bureau.  Pat was township auditor for Richland Grove and director of the New Windsor Telephone Company.  He was the district director of Mercer County Soil and Water Conservation District, having served 25 years.   He was president of Interstate RC & D (Recreation Conservation and Development) and from 1998-2000, vice president of the Illinois Association of RC & D Areas.  In 2003, he received the Outstanding Individual Award of North Central RC & D Association and Council Member of the Year.  Pat received the National Outstanding Council Member Award at Leadership Forum in Washington, DC.

Survivors include his wife:  Nancy; one special foster daughter: Revone Bauwens of Palm Desert, California; several nieces and nephews.
His parents and siblings: Rose Ralston; Ann Ripperger and Pete McVeigh preceded him in death.
