Dot was born August 5, 1929 in Galesburg, IL, the daughter of Elmer Earl and Hazel Skidmore Guenther. She married Ardwin Clayton Young on June 15, 1952 in Knoxville, IL.

Dot grew up and graduated high school in Galesburg. She spent time at the roller rink in town where she loved to roller skate and dance. From an early age Dot enjoyed sports, both helping out at sporting events and watching sports. She especially enjoyed watching the Fighting Illini and Bears football teams.

Dot and her husband of 60 years spent many years on the Mississippi River commercial fishing. The two of them built their house and home in rural Keithsburg, where they spent many years together raising their daughters, chickens, bees and produce to sell at farmers markets.

Dot enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, putting together puzzles and spending time with her family. She was well known for her “Guenther wit”, laughter, spicy stories and jokes.

Those left to honor and cherish her memory include her daughters, Christine and David Armentrout of New Boston and Ginnie and Richard Duncan of Reynolds; grandchildren, Levi Duncan, Brandi Lewis and Angel and Ryan Mueller; great grandchildren, Jacob, Lexi and Elli Duncan and Eden and Guy Mueller; sister, Delores Young; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, Les, Larry and Dale; two sisters, Bernice and Helen; and granddaughter, BilliJo Armentrout Ayers.
