Ferne Manthe

Kewanee - Ferne Manthe, 94, of Kewanee, died at 4:55 a.m., Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Allure of Geneseo.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 18 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 17 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Peter's Evangelical Church UCC in Kewanee.

She was born March 29, 1927 in Kewanee, the daughter of Clifford Roy and Farie Lucille (Craig) Petty. She married Kenneth LaVerne Manthe on September 1, 1946 in Kewanee and he preceded her in death on March 30, 1991. Survivors include her three children; Gail (Lowell) Peck of Moline, Donald (Barb) Manthe of Aledo and Gary (Kelly) Manthe of Atlanta, GA, five grandchildren; Karla (Nathan) Baker of Moline, Corey (Jennifer) Peck of Orion, Aaran (Rob) Lantz of Monmouth, Philip (Radha Sathe) Manthe and Kyle Manthe, both of Atlanta, GA and six great grandchildren; Callie and Nicholas Lantz, Skyler and Briar Baker and Carson and Dalton Peck and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Patrick, a brother and a sister and a special friend, Dwayne Grant.

Ferne attended Wethersfield schools. She had worked at Kresge's 5&10 and had also farmed with her husband. She was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical UCC Church and its Women's Guild. She had also sung in the church choir. She was a Henry County Porkette and a member of the Cornwall Township Social Circle. She enjoyed bowling and dancing and in later years enjoyed traveling with Dwayne in their motor home.
