Byron "Bud" Wakefield
Milan - Byron "Bud" Wakefield, 86, of Milan, died Thursday, September 2, 2021 at Silver Cross Pavilion at Friendship Manor, Rock Island. Funeral services will be 11 am Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E. 4th Avenue, Milan. Visitation will be from 10 – 11 am Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Preemption Cemetery, Preemption, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in care of the Preemption United Methodist Church or an animal shelter of your choice.
Bud was born at home in Taylor Ridge, Illinois on October 13, 1934, a son of Arthur and Wilma Hutchinson Wakefield. He graduated from Sherrard High School where he played football, basketball and ran track. He attended Western Illinois University. Bud served in the Illinois National Guard.
Bud married Linda Brown on June 16, 1957 at the Edgington Presbyterian Church.
He worked at the Rock Island Argus over thirty years. He retired from John Day in Milan. Bud later drove cars for the Quad City Auto Auction in Milan.
Bud was a member of the Preemption United Methodist Church. He loved his family and greatly enjoyed his grandchildren where he took tremendous pride in following their variety of activities. Bud was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Linda Wakefield, Milan; children, Dana (Kevin) Miller, Viola, Buddy (Tammy) Wakefield, Davenport and Nikki DeVolder, Preemption; grandchildren, Lindsay Miller, Moline, Alex (Jess) Miller, Colona, Haley Miller, Milan, Christy (Randy) Wieckhorst, LeClaire, Casey (Andrew) Cook, Moline, Ty Wakefield, Rock Island, Jami (Jake Miller) DeVolder, Milwaukee, Wisc. and Ian and Aaron DeVolder, both of Preemption; great-grandchildren, Reece, Ryleigh, Trace and Georgie; sister, Joanne Krouse; brother, Norman Wakefield; and two nieces and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, John DeVolder and brothers-in-law, Marvin Krouse and Robert Brown.
The family would like to thank the staff at Silver Cross, especially, Donna, Savanna, Shelby, Allie and Jasmine, as well as Andy with hospice for all their compassionate care. God bless you all.
