At the age of 18, Jerry left home and worked at various resorts from Florida and Arizona to California then Colorado. In 1973, he married Marilyn Douglas, a hiking friend he met in the Colorado Mountain Club Denver Group. They spent every moment possible in the wide open spaces. They hiked the entire 450-mile Colorado Trail. The couple loved camping, backpacking, and fishing trips.
