Kathryn J. Luxmore, 74, of Sherrard, Illinois died Monday, August 1, 2022 at home after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.
Visitation is Thursday, August 4th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Funeral service is 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 5th at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Viola Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Bryant J. Luxmore Memorial Fund or the Viola United Presbyterian Church.
Kathryn was born December 13, 1947 in Moline, the daughter of Herbert E. & Ruth J. McLean McAtee.
On June 12, 1971 she married Richard W. Luxmore in New Windsor. Kay attended Northern Illinois University earning a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education and later attended Western Illinois University, earning a Masters of Science in Gifted Education. Mrs. Luxmore taught school for 30 years; taking 7 years off during that to stay home and raise her family. Over the years she had taught in Sterling, Sherrard, and East Moline School Districts, retiring from East Moline School District in 2010.
Kay was a member of Viola United Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder. She loved reading, and was an avid genealogist. Above all she loved her family, especially her grandkids and helping instill in them a love for learning.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband: Rich Luxmore, Sherrard; son and daughter-in-law: Eric (Crystal) Luxmore, Prior Lake, Minnesota; daughter and son-in-law: Lindsey (Cori) Llanas, Sherrard; grandchildren: Alexa Luxmore, Carson Luxmore, Mason Llanas, Chase Llanas, and Luke Llanas; siblings: Herb (Eva) McAtee, Plymouth, Minnesota, Mary Beth (Don) Simpson, Geneseo, and Glenn (Sande) McAtee, Viola; and mother-in-law: Donna Luxmore, Aledo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law: Terry Luxmore, nephew: Corporal Bryant J. Luxmore, and father-in-law: William Luxmore.
