Martha was born December 21, 1921 in Warren County Illinois to Daniel E. and Cuba (Kishline) Fravil and died July 28, 2022 at her home in Colorado Springs. She was 100 years, 7 months, and 7 days old.

Martha grew up in Little York, Illinois, and graduated from Little York High School in 1939. She graduated from Western Illinois State Teacher’s College with duel majors in English and Latin for secondary education in 1944 and received her Master’s degree in 1973 from Colorado College. She began her teaching career in St. Elmo, IL in 1944 for two years and then taught at Little York High School for three years.

Martha married Leigh Putnam July 22, 1945 in Seaton, IL and they moved their young family to Colorado Springs, CO in 1956 where she continued her teaching career until her retirement in 1982.

After her retirement, she married Bob Simons.

She is survived by her son Lewis Putnam of Seaton, and daughter Crystal Putnam of Greenville, Fl, daughter-in-law Penny (Rowley) Putnam; grandchildren, Michael & Kelly Putnam, Birdie & William McDermott, Brandy Doyle, Patricia Putnam & Christopher Sparks, and Bryan Putnam; 9 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Jules Fravil; husband Leigh Putnam; husband Lt Col Robert Simons; son Michael D. Putnam; son in law Jim Miller; and granddaughter Virginia (Ginny) Dampier.

We will gather graveside at Little York Cemetery in Little York, Illinois, on Saturday September 3 at 10:30 AM to commit her ashes next to her parents. A luncheon will be served in the Little York Community center immediately following the committal service.
