John E. Wangelin, 88, of Milan passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at home.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in Chapel Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made in care of the Quad City Animal Welfare Center.
John was born on December 1, 1933 in Rock Island, a son of Hugh and Mary (Tindall) Wangelin. He graduated from Sherrard High School in 1951 and went on to serve in the United States Army. He married Norma Albertson on August 24, 1957 and they just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this summer.
John retired from Alcoa, where he served as a lab technician for many years. He was also a life-long farmer and enjoyed every minute he got to spend outside in the fields running his equipment. His hobbies included restoring antique tractors, cars, and trucks. John was quick witted, humorous, extremely hard working, and loved his family beyond measure.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Norma Wangelin; daughters, Carolyn (Mark) Minteer, Milan and Elizabeth (Lenny) Lipe, Andalusia; grandchildren, Johnathan (Alysia) Wangelin, Galva, Matt (Holly) Wangelin, Cambridge, Ronnie Minteer (Dorothy), Springfield, Emilie (Michael) Lawrence, Rock Island, Jessica Lipe (Garrett), Durant IA, and Logan (Josie) Lipe, Gulfport, MS; great-grandchildren, Libby, Luke, Gavin, and Noely; and nephew, Bob (Karen) King, Milan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Mary; sister, Beverly (William H. Jr.) King; and son, Benjamin Wangelin.
