Rosetta A. Simpkins, 94 of Aledo, Illinois died Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at Mercer Manor in Aledo. Graveside services are 2:30 p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2022 at the Greenmound Cemetery, Keithsburg. There is no visitation. Fippinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and online condolences may made at www.fippingerfuneralhome.com.
She was born October 21, 1927 on a farm west of Viola, Illinois to Clarence and Opal Franks Luxmore. She graduated from Viola High School in 1945 and married Curtis Simpkins in April 1948.
After high school, Rosetta received a teaching certificate and taught for one year in Lunn School in Aledo. She worked at several different places, including Vernon Clark Dealership in Aledo, the Mercer County ASCS office in Aledo and the Jack & Jill grocery stores in both Aledo and Alpha.
Rosetta was a CNA at the Mercer County Nursing Home, retiring in 1992 and cared for her parents until their passing in 1996.
She attended the Alexis United Presbyterian Church and was a 4H leader for many years. In her high school years, she was very athletic, having achieved many blue ribbons. She enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino and car rides throughout Mercer County.
Survivors include a daughter, Connie (John) Jones of Rock Island; 2 grandchildren, Bobbi Boney of Aledo; Starla Connell of Land O’ Lakes, FL; 5 great grandchildren, Chason, Jacob, Christopher Connell of Florida; Elaine and Daniel Zelenin of Aledo; 7 great great grandchildren, Chason, Cade, Aubrey, Emma, Maddie, Kyson, Kolson; 2 nephews, Jerry and Terry Luxmore and great nieces and nephews.
Her parents and one brother, Joseph and his wife, Beverly preceded her in death.
