Marion Wayne Erickson, 90, of Taylor Ridge, died Thursday, February 23, 2023 at UnityPoint Health – Trinity, Rock Island. A funeral service will be 11 am Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at the Reynolds United Methodist Church, Reynolds. Visitation will be from 9-11 am Wednesday, March 1 at the church. Burial will take place in Reynolds Cemetery. Memorials may be made in care of Reynolds United Methodist Church or Rockridge FFA. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Reynolds, is assisting the family.
Wayne was born in Rock Island County on September 28, 1932, a son of Marion and Susannah McEntire Erickson. He graduated from Reynolds High School in 1950 and attended Augustana College, Rock Island. Wayne married Carol Hutchinson on February 5, 1956 in Milan.
Wayne was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He was wounded at the Battle of Pork Chop Hill and received the Purple Heart.
Upon returning home from the service, Wayne worked seven years for John Deere Harvester and was a life-long farmer in rural Rock Island County.
Wayne was a longtime member of the Reynolds United Methodist Church, Reynolds. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and family along with fishing and skiing. He previously served as the Edgington Township Clerk and was a former Commander of the Reynolds American Legion.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Carol Erickson, Taylor Ridge; children, Mary Sue (Mike) Kitchell and David (Tammy) Erickson, both of Milan; grandchildren, Haley (Ian) MacDonald, Hamlet, Nicholas (Kelsey) Erickson, Milan and Bradley (Sarah) Erickson, Milan; and great-grandchildren, Norah, Charlie, Warren, Audrey, Grant and Ruth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Scott Edward Erickson and sister, Sue Ann Erickson.
