James Beck Blazer, 83, of Ashland, widower of Ann Blazer, passed away Friday, Dec. 25, 2020 after a brief illness.
Jim was born July 1, 1937, in Monmouth to the late Herschel Janes and Katherine Emrick Blazer. After graduating high school, Jim proudly served his country in the US Army. He then worked for 15 years for his uncle and founder of Ashland Oil, Paul G. Blazer in the marketing department of Ashland Oil, Inc. He then opened Jim’s Market and Convenience Store in Ironville. He also owned and sold parts for Chevy Camaro models 1967-1969, was a member of the American Legion, proud member of the NRA, a Kentucky Colonel, member of Northeast Kentucky Fish and Game Association and a deacon and 53-year member of Community Presbyterian Church of Bellefonte.
In addition to his parents and his wife of 57 years, Jim was preceded in death by three sisters, Patricia (John) Hamilton, Laura (Paul) Behan and Sally (Bill) Bond.
Survivors include three daughters, Julia Murray (Ray) of Woodland, MS, Beth Conner (Mark) of Chillicothe, OH and Susan Thomas (Eric) of Navarre, OH; four grandchildren, Zachary Thomas, Nathan Thomas, Virginia “Ginny” Conner and Katherine “Katie” Conner; along with several nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the superior care given to Jim during his illness by Hospice of Huntington and his special caregiver, Charlotte Crites. They went above and beyond with the level of care provided.
A private service honoring Jim was conducted Monday, January 4, 2021 at Community Presbyterian Church of Bellefonte. Caniff Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left for the family at canifffuneralhome.com.
