Kenneth L. Whitmire, 77, of Joy, IL died Saturday, January 30, 2021 in his home.  Cremation has been accorded.   Visitation is 3-6 p.m.  Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo.  Masonic services will immediately follow the visitation.  Burial will be at a later date.  Memorials may be left to the Westmer Larger Parish or the First Baptist Church of Joy and online condolences may be left at

Kenny was born June 21, 1943 in Ash Flat, Arkansas to Isaac and Alta Moore Whitmire.  He attended the local schools and enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving from 1963-1969.  Kenny was united in marriage to Wanda R. Whitlow January 26, 1964 in New Boston, IL. 

He was employed at Boney’s Farm Store for ten years.  Kenny then owned and operated KW Tire Service and Test Lane in Joy until becoming manager of the Joy Grain Elevator, retiring in 2015. 

Kenny was a member of the Joy United Methodist Church, New Boston Masonic Lodge #59 and an honorary member of the Aledo Masonic Lodge #252.

He loved his time with his grandkids and great grandkids.  Kenny enjoyed gardening, fishing, mushroom hunting and being outdoors.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda; two sons, Coby (Sue) Whitmire of Joy; Thad (Kelly) Whitmire of Aledo; five grandchildren, Felicia, Dillon, Renee, Emily, Karissa; five great-grandchildren, Trevor, Kylee, Chloe, Kenneth, Claire; six sisters:  Juanita King of Taylor Ridge, Marie Robins of Granite City, Ill., Loretta Croom, Barb Eagan, Pam Smith, all of Walnut Ridge, Ark., Nancy Earl of Joy; two brothers, Harold Whitmire of Monmouth, Jerry Whitmire of Aledo; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister and one brother.
