Dr. Dennis Palmer talks to the people gathered at a campaign celebration for the Mercer County Hospital. He and his wife Vicki were cochairmen of the committee that raised more than $1 million for the Mercer County Hospital renovation project.

Vicki and Dr. Dennis Palmer, co-chairs of the hospital capital campaign, are pleased to announce that the goal of $1 million has been met. A celebration event was held Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at the Mercer County fairgrounds, with live music, hay rack rides, a potluck and speeches.

Volunteers, donors, and hospital staff were on hand to celebrate the momentous occasion.

While the campaign has reached its goal, campaign volunteers are still accepting gifts. Additional donations will help reduce the amount of the $10.5 million debt the hospital must incur for the renovation. The renovation is vital to continue Mercer County Hospital's long-standing commitment to provide quality healthcare in this area.

The exact amount raised was revealed on Sunday by Dick Stone, vice chair of the capital campaign committee, -- $1,011,445.32.  Donations are still being accepted. Donations can be mailed to Mercer Foundation for Health, PO Box 52 Aledo, IL 61231.

If you are interested in making a donation to the hospital campaign, please contact Jean Kiddoo at the Mercer County Hospital at (309) 582-3719 or the Mercer Foundation for Health office at 582-0970.
