Christopher J. Gavin, president of Midwest Bank of Western Illinois formally announced Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, the purchase of a lot from GDG, LLC and their plans to build a new banking facility in Aledo. The lot is at the corner of Highways 17 and 94 on the east edge of town and is part of a new development by GDG.

"We are excited about being part of this new development and providing added convenience for our customers. Aledo is a great community and we hope that our new facility will spur further development for the city," said Gavin.

The new building plans were contemplated after the bank's former building in the downtown area was severely damaged by fire in January. Rex Johnson, vice president said, "The fire has certainly created some challenges for us, however many times challenges create opportunities. This is certainly no exception. We see this as an opportunity for us to increase the services we provide to the citizens of Mercer County."

The preliminary plans are for a 2,500-square-foot building with a two-lane drive through and ATM. Some additional features will be safe deposit boxes with viewing rooms and a meeting room that will be made available for public use. Frye Builders has been chosen as the general contractor and plans are to break ground in early October.

The bank will continue to operate out of its temporary facilities until the new building is completed, which is expected to be in the spring of 2010. Faye Eckhardt, assistant vice president and branch manager said, "My staff and I appreciate the concern and support of our customers and the Aledo community during the past several months. We look forward to serving present and future customers at our new location."
