Aledo driver’s license facility update

Aledo employees at the Secretary of state office start emptying drawers behind the counter in preparation for repair of the front counter.

Florence Morris, 88. was just completing her driver's examination and pulling up in front of the office when she drove through the southeast wall of the facility. She was shaken up, but her examiner, Bill McDermott, was taken to the hospital. He was released later that day and plans to be able to work next week according to Henry Haupt, a spokesman for the Secretary of State's office.

"The office will be closed the remainder of this week and probably next week as well," said Haupt.

"We will be rebuilding the counter in house at the Secretary of State's office to save money," said Haupt.

The Secretary of State's office is referring people in Mercer County to its branches in Monmouth, Galesburg or Silvis while the Aledo office is closed.

Those offices are open Saturday, 7:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.; Tuesday, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Wednesday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
