(Nov. 30, 2010) -- Frontier Communications Corporation announced today that company representatives have been made aware of potential telephone scam activity occurring in several communities in Northwest Illinois, including Monmouth, Macomb, Aledo and Carthage. The scam is targeting local business customers.

Frontier advises business customers that if they are contacted by individuals stating that they are calling on behalf of Frontier regarding changes to the customer's account, the customer should confirm the legitimacy of the caller.

"A few business customers have shared that they recently received a call from someone posing as a Frontier representative who wanted to notify the customer of changes to their account. The caller states that because of the recent Frontier and Verizon merger that they need to review their account," particularly their long distance service, said Kim Zugmaier, general manager for Frontier's Northwest and Central Illinois markets.

The caller may state that they will reduce their phone bill. This is typically a "slammer" and will not reduce their bill and will move the customer’s long distance service to a third party carrier.

Frontier officials advise business customers that if they have concerns about the legitimacy of any company representative, call or correspondence, they can contact the company at (800) 921-8102 to speak to a Call Center representative and ask to review their accounts. Additionally, in Northwest Illinois, customers may contact General Manager Kim Zugmaier at, office phone (309) 734-3231 or their local account representative.
