Chamber hands out awards

Cathy Decker/Staff reporter
Aledo Area Chamber of Commerce awards were given to individuals and groups at the April Chamber luncheon held in Doug's Town and Country new banquet room. Seated are members of the executive committee of the Mercer County Hospital Auxiliary, from left, Sandra Downing, Vivian Kopp, Jeannine Kenney, Jean Baker, Vicki Dellitt, Vivian Brown and Carol Hess. Back row: Cathy Decker, Chamber member of the year; Faye Eckhardt, past president; Mercer Market managers Greg Hart, Jeff Sedam and Steve McLaren, business of the year; and Lance Meyer, who was inducted into the chamber Hall of Fame.

Mary Kay Crawford, Aledo Area Chamber of Commerce president, welcomed a big group to the April 12 chamber meeting, which doubled as the awards banquet.

The group of around 50 dined in Doug's Town and Country newly completed banquet room, which holds 60 comfortably, but could hold up to 75.

The chamber had some good news, in that the second vice president's spot was filled. Todd Frye, president of Country Bank, stepped up to the plate for the job. His first duty will be to organize the annual golf outing.

The chamber will be again sponsoring golf carts to drive people to and from their vehicles during the Rhubarb Festival. Any business or group that is interested in signing up to do some of the driving should contact the chamber at 582-5373. Rhubarb Festival is June 3 and June 4.

Speaking of rhubarb, Darlene Johnson, organizer of the event, has some more good news. The rhubarb is coming up nicely.
