Frick's heifer is champion shorthorn at state

Robert Blackford/Editor

Sully Frick, 17, of Alexis, showed the champion shorthorn heifer at the Illinois State Fair Aug. 12. Frick's heifer was the third best heifer overall and also the reserve champion Land of Lincoln (meaning it was bred, born and raised in Illinois).

Frick's  heifer competed against about 70 other shorthorns to be named champion. His heifer was the third best in the state over about 500 others competing at the state fair.

Frick will breed the heifer and sell her calves to be show calves or show them himself.

Frick will be a senior at United High School this fall. Following high school he plans on attending Blackhawk East in Kewanee with hopes of going into the cattle business when he gets older.

Frick has been showing cattle for the past seven or eight  years and has several cattle of his own.
