Black Hawk College East Campus hosts Fall College Visit Day
Black Hawk College East Campus held its Fall College Visit Day in the newly renovated auditorium for 140+ prospective students and their parents interested in the agriculture department programs.
Individuals from Illinois, Iowa, Indiana and Ohio made good use of the day learning about enrollment steps, meeting our outstanding faculty and students, and touring the Agriculture Center, mechanics labs, greenhouse and Prairie Pointe Apartments.
Student speaker for the morning was Ross Steiger of Hillsdale, an Ag Production and Ag Business Management student, who gave a heartfelt testimonial on his work experience/internship sites. Keynote speaker was Lacey Alexander, Regional Animal Handing Specialist, Cargill, an alum of the East Campus from La Prairie.
One of the students at this year’s Fall Visit Day was Cory Edge from Rosedale, Ind. Both Cory’s father Doug and mother Lisa (Bickett, formerly of Atkinson) graduated from BHC in 1991 earning agriculture transfer degrees. Cory is exploring the agriculture transfer program to pursue a career in animal science. In visiting with part time recruiter, Jon Wolf, Cory said that on campus housing was a definite positive and meeting many of his parents’ teachers simply made the day complete. He would like to live out a legacy being a BHE livestock judge.
We invite prospective students and their families to visit campus on an individual basis throughout the year, but also host Ag Visit Days which are normally scheduled twice a year; the first Friday of November and the first Friday of April. During Ag Visit Day, the entire agriculture department faculty, as well as many students, devote their day to giving tours, explaining curriculums and answering questions. It is truly a team effort to help interested high school students understand what two years at BHC would be like.
