Rockridge High School Music Department will present the musical Babes In Arms. The show was co-written with Lorenz Hart and is the quintessential "Hey kids, let's put on a show!"

The musical boasts what is considered to be one of the greatest scores written for the stage with the songs "My Funny Valentine," "Where or When," "The Lady is a Tramp" and "Johnny One Note."

The show is set in a summer stock theater and the plot concerns the apprentices' conviction to mount the original revue they've created while dodging the underhanded attempts of the surly theater owner to squash their efforts at every turn. Further complications are provided by the over-bearing stage mother of a beautiful ex-child star and the inflated ego of a hack southern playwright.

But of course the show must go on, and so it does in a resolution of comeuppance, reconciliation and romance. Babes In Arms premiered in 1937 and was produced by Dwight Deere Wiman, grandson of John Deere. It was a hit and aroused every New York dramatic critic to render a unanimous decision in its favor.

Rockridge High School Music Department will present Babes in Arms Saturday May 8, at 7 p.m. and Sunday May 9 at 2 p.m. Tickets are five dollars and may be purchased at the door.
