Former Aledo Northside Middle school teacher and best-selling author, Sally John, will present  a novel writing workshop on June 27, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at Vitale's Restaurant, College Avenue, Aledo. Mercer County Christian Writers' Group will sponsor the mini-workshop. Registration is $15 which includes instruction, handouts, and beverage. Seating is limited and may be reserved by phone or text to Lori Boruff at 309-371-9436.

1975-77 Aledo Northside Middle school students may remember Mrs. John. “I enjoyed my short time there very much and fell in love with the town and farming community, so different from my hometown, Moline,” remembers John.

Today she is author of more than fifteen novels, including the popular Safe Harbor series (coauthored with Gary Smalley) and The Beach House series. A three-time finalist for the Christy Award, Sally writes contemporary stories that offer hope to readers in their own relational and faith journeys. She now lives in Southern California with her husband, Tim.

“Sally's newest book, Desert Gift, just released June 1st so it's hot off the press and we will be some of the first to see it,” comments Mercer County Christian Writers' Group director Lori Boruff. It will be available for purchase.  The novel is an insightful and inspiring story about the unexpected detours our lives can take, the lies we sometimes tell ourselves, and the hope that God is always at work, even in the desert.
