Liberty Station Steakhouse gets high attention

The third floor restaurant at the Button House, 105A N. College Ave., Aledo, was the scene of Greg and Diane Boruff's newest venture in Mercer County on Wednesday night, Jan. 26.

It was like something out of a 1930's movie, with patrons cashing in tickets for free drinks and lots of food sampling going on. The Boruff's opened their doors to the public with a "Business After Hours" meet and greet, bringing in the entire staff of Liberty Station Steakhouse and Reason's Meats, the locale of much of the new restaurant's signature menu items.

Area business owners, friends and Aledo Main Street fans loaded the hallways and dining area of Aledo's newest restaurant sampling homemade onion soup, caesar and other salads, and beef and chicken kabobs. It wasn't just the free food that brought people in. The new restaurant had been redecorated and realized a much "warmer tone," according to Diane Boruff.

Greg and Diane sent out postcard invites using the Aledo Area Chamber of Commerce and Aledo Main Street mailing lists. "We used the chamber list and Aledo Main Street membership, introducing ourselves to let them meet us and us meet them," said Greg.

Greg and Diane were wooed into the venture by building owners after The Livermore closed its doors. "There was a vision here before us. We wanted to carry the torch," Greg said. He believes John Kesinger's vision of making the Button Building a destination location is still a good one.

The two-hour introduction flew. "It was a great, warm reception. There was a cross section of employees, employers and government people in attendance. There were city and county officials, just a great cross section of the community," said Greg.

The Boruff's are also third generation owners of Reason's Locker in Buffalo Prairie. "Three and a half years ago we bought it from Steve (Reason)," said Greg. Buffalo Prairie's meat locker has been in business for 70 years. "We're into the third generation," said Greg. Diane, his wife, is Steve Reason's sister.

Liberty Station Steakhouse's hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. On Sunday, Feb. 13, the business is opening its Sunday brunch hours from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. "The first one will obviously have a Valentine's theme."
