Dec. 5-7, 2008 is the Aledo Chamber of Commerce sponsored Holly Days with the theme "A Rockin' Christmas." An electric parade, Christmas Walk with downtown businesses serving holiday treats and holding special sales are on tap for Friday night from 5 to 8 p.m. Chili will be served at the Aledo Fire Station during those hours with the electric parade starting at 5:30 p.m. on Main Street.

Lance Meyer, Chamber vice president, is this year's coordinator. "It's a lot of work, but a great time," he said. He said the Chamber spends around $4,000 on Holly Days, for advertising, prizes, treats after Sunday’s Voices of Praise concert, and for the horse drawn wagon.

Pine View Guest Ranch of Keithsburg will be bringing up a Clydesdale team and wagon to give rides around Aledo on Friday night. Pick up point is at the corner of College and Main.

Maple City Candy and The Livermore are decorating a Gingerbread House inside their location on Friday, Dec. 5. "We'll be providing the candies and all the decorations," said Pam Ricke, special events coordinator.

Besides the stores being open later on Friday, there will be opportunities to sample Christmas treats, Living Window displays in many of the businesses, a live nativity and Santa, who takes over a new home in Aledo Central Park this year. Santa is the parade marshall of the Electric Parade, which starts at 5:30 p.m. There will be at least 12 parade entries with the route going down Main Street and then to Aledo Central Park. Santa will visit with children at a new house that Aledo Main Street found especially for him.

The live nativity is being brought to the community with the cooperation of First Baptist and College Avenue Presbyterian churches. The nativity re-enactors will be located near the Exchange Club Christmas Tree display in the Central Park parking lot. "Each church will take a one and a half hour time during Holly Days," said Pastor Lukas Dunn, Aledo First Baptist. "The nativity scene will include at least two sheep and a miniature donkey," he added.
