Berenyce Reed celebrates 95th birthday

Berenyce Reed of Illinois City celebrated her 95th birthday on Feb. 8, 2009 with a family dinner. An open house will be held at a later date.

Berenyce was born Feb. 8, 1914 at her grandparent’s home, one-half mile east of Illinois City, the daughter of Marshall T. and Rosa Brayton Blanchard. She married Boyd Reed on July 28, 1940 in Hannibal, Mo. He died in June 1972.

Berenyce and her husband farmed all their married lives. She was the first woman Star Route mail carrier and retired after 25 years of service. She was one of the first women in the area to get her driver’s license. She still enjoys flower gardening and her cat, Jack.

Her children are Mary Hildebrandt of Illinois City and Linda (Dan) Kiddoo of Taylor Ridge. Her grandsons are Todd (Heather) Kiddoo of Bettendorf, Iowa and Dustin (Jenna Kiddoo of Muscatine, Iowa. She also has a great-grandson, Ethan Kiddoo.
