Mercer County DARE Trivia Night is April 4.  Do you like to get together to have fun and help raise money for a worthy cause? Is there another group like yours in a neighboring town you would like to challenge to see who can do the best and creat a reputation to uphold? How about competition to spark a little excitement? If you answered yes any of these questions, have we got a deal for you!

The Mercer Count DARE Program is holding its annual Trivia Night on Saturday, April 4 at the Preemption United Methodist Church. Last year was the first time with this new type of fund-raiser to take the place of the auction that had been held for many years.

DARE gets no tax dollars or other support, so fund-raisers and donations are the only way they have to get money to provide the Mercer County DARE Program that goes into the elementary schools in the county. They provide classroom materials, t-shirts and awards for the essay and poster contest winners along with a pizza party and graduation for all who complete the program.

The board also provides Citizenship awards that are given to selected eighth grade boys and girls in recognition of their character and who serve as role models for their classmates. DARE also makes annual donations to the post prom parties at Aledo, Sherrard and Westmer. And last, but certainly not least, are the yearly scholarships that are given to high school seniors to help further their education.

Plans are for drawing that night for a Wii and 50/50. All participants are encouraged to bring their own snacks. Drinks will be available for purchase. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the trivia contest begins at 7 p.m. Tables are available for $80 for a team of eight. You just need to call (309) 534-8376 and leave a message on the machine to make your reservation.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Mercer County DARE Board or would like to make a contribution toward their programs, contact Sheriff Tom Thompson at the Mercer County Sheriff's Department in Aledo at (309) 582-5194.
