Shirley Barnes celebrates 80th birthday

Shirley Barnes of Aledo celebrated her 80th birthday on May 12. As her family is unable to make it home until July 4, there will be no celebration until then. Shirley will appreciate cards and calls from friends and relatives.

Shirley Mathias was born in Davenport, Iowa. She married Edward Barnes, Jan. 12, 1949. He passed Nov. 20, 2002. They raised seven children. She has 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Shirley was a homemaker taking care of her family and big garden. She volunteered for her church, the American Legion, and is a VFW auxiliary member. Shirley is an avid supporter of the Q.C. baseball and hockey teams.
