HOPE will be filled with luminaria and glowing brightly tonight at the Mercer County Relay for Life. The event is being held overnight in Aledo Central Park from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. The public is invited to join the activities.

The American Cancer Society set up events for Friday night, July 24, and Saturday morning, July 25, to help raise money for those with cancer.

Jessica Houdyshell, Teresa Peel and Kevin Esp were among those many people setting up for the night. Houdyshell and Peel's fathers have both passed away due to cancer.

"My supervisor passed away with cancer. That's when I started to do the relay," said Houdyspell. She has also sold pop and water at her work, Aledo Rehab, for money to put towards the society. All money that is raised goes towards the American Cancer Society.

Held at 9:45 Friday night is the candle lap, which is a in memory of those who have died and survived. The park will be surrounded by lighted luminaria. During the silent auction they will be auctioning off certificates to restaurants, a hotel stay and Cardinal baseball tickets, among many other things.
