New Windsor Postmaster Tena Anseeuw opened a makeshift post office, calling it Rodeo Park Station, on the first day of the rodeo. Special postal cancellations in honor of New Windsor's 70th anniversary can be obtained from the New Windsor Post office for 30 days after the Aug. 13-18 celebration.

The New Windsor Post Office set up a Rodeo Station in the merchant's area at Rodeo Park in New Windsor on Thursday, July 13. Postmaster Tena Anseeuw was selling stamped envelopes for 50 cents, that included a special New Windsor Fair, Rodeo and horse show postal cancellation, in honor of the 70th anniversary of the event.

Many people throughout the world collect special cancellations. She said the post office will have the cancellation available to anyone for the next 30 days. "Just bring in your mail and ask for the cancellation," she said.

Often people from other states will send for the cancellation, by mailing a stamped postcard or envelope with a stamp on it, with instructions to use that cancellation,

"Or you could stop by the post office," said Anseeuw.

She said this year the Rodeo directors asked for a special cancellation. "The Rocio Association requested this and we honored it," she said. "I've done three (special cancellations) in the last six or seven years," said Anseeuw. One of those years (2007) was for the New Windsor Sesquicentennial.

Anseeuw has been the postmaster in New Windsor for the past 21 years. "I've worked there for 27 years."

Anyone wishing to have their mail cancelled with the special cancellation can mail it to Rodeo Park Station, PO Box 9998, New Windsor, IL 61465.
