Virginia Sirotnak to turn 90

Virginia Sirotnak will be celebrating her 90th birthday on Jan. 30, 2010. Cards would be welcomed and should be sent to Virginia at Mercer County Nursing Home, 309 N.W. 9th Ave., Aledo, IL 61231. Family members and friends will treat her to a celebratory meal at The Livermore.

She was born Jan. 30, 1920 in Streator, to John and Sarah Cameron.

On June 21, 1947, Virginia married Albert Sirotnak, and they moved to Mercer County when he took his first position as a teacher and principal in the Keithsburg School system. He passed away in 1968. Virginia then moved back to Streator, where she lived until coming back to Mercer County in 2005.

She worked as a school secretary, first at New Boston Elementary and Westmer Junior High, and later at Northlawn Junior High in Streator. She has been a member of the Central Church of Christ in Streator, but most recently attended the First Baptist Church in Aledo.

Her daughter and son-in-law are Stephanie and Blaine Braucht of rural Joy. Grandsons are Morgan (wife Laura) Braucht of Jacksonville, and Jared Braucht of Rock Island. There is one great-granddaughter, Clara Braucht, and two step-great-grandchildren, Victoria and Jacob Covell, all of Jacksonville.
