The Starry Night Repertory Theatre is seeking actors and production staff for a summer production (May-June 2010) and for its second season (September 2010 through June 2011). This new regional nonprofit theatre company is based in Macomb. Starry Night presented two productions in its first season: VINCENT (about the artist van Gogh) and LAST TRAIN TO NIBROC.

Founder and Artistic Director, Jeannie Marlin Woods, is holding auditions and interviews for actors, designers, and backstage staff on Saturday, April 24, at 1 p.m. Everyone from the Macomb community and WIU campus are encouraged to attend. Actors will be asked to read a scene from a script (and have the option to show a prepared audition piece). Designers and production staff will have a short interview.

The auditions/interviews will be held in Horrabin Theatre on the WIU campus (in Horrabin Hall across from the library). Please arrive promptly at 1 p.m. For actors a resume and headshot are appreciated, but not required. Designers should bring a resume and portfolio if they have them.

Productions under consideration for next season (for which roles are available) are: “Almost, Maine,” “The Compleat Works of Shakespeare, Abridged,” “Painting Churches,” “Great Ladies of the Shakespearean Stage,” and “The Conflict” (an original Civil War drama by John Hallwas). Actors and staff do not need to be available for all productions, but will be considered for individual productions based on availability.

Woods describes the Starry Night offerings as “theatre to warm the heart.” The company’s mission is to “create an artistic home that ensures a safe and supportive environment for artists through collaboration, cooperation and creativity; and to enrich the community with a theatre that will touch the human heart.” She encourages anyone interested in this kind of theatre to come out for the auditions.
