Call to Artists
The Buchanan Center for the Arts is hosting 64 Arts National Juried Exhibition $2800 in awards.
The juror for our second national show is Al Gury.
Mr. Gury is the Chair of the Painting Department of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. He received his BA in Fine Arts and Humanities from Saint Louis University, a Certificate of Art from PAFA and an MFA from the University of Delaware. Mr Gury is a recipient of the Cresson Traveling Fellowship. Having received numerous awards for painting and education, Mr. Gury was also designated as a master teacher by American Artist Magazine. He is represented by F.A.N. Gallery in Philadelphia.
His paintings have been exhibited at the National Academy of Design, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the National Capitol in Washington DC, Washington and Lee University, the University of Pennsylvania and galleries across the country. In addition, he writes for American Artist Magazine and has written two books on the history of color in painting and the history of painting techniques; Alla Prima - A Contemporary Guide to Direct Painting, Random House, 2009 and Color - It's Traditions and Practice in Painting, Random House, 2010.
Mr. Gury will give his remarks at the opening of the exhibit launching a series of community-wide educational programs in the gallery that will encourage open dialogue among visitors to the show.
