The Viola Public Library, RNA Chapter 20066, and Book Buddies are hosting a Family Game Day on Saturday May 15 from 1-4 p.m. at the Viola Community Center next door to the library. Children and adults are invited to come play various games including Scrabble Slam, Pictureka!, Monopoly Deal, Clue, Farkle, Peanuts and others. Snacks will be provided but please bring your own drink.

Do you shop online and worry about your credit card numbers being stolen?  Ever check your credit report to make sure someone isn’t using your identity to purchase items? Do you know how easy it is for your identity to be stolen even if you don’t use the Internet? Then come to the Viola Community Center on Friday May 21 for a talk on Preventing Identity Theft. Sergeant Chris Johnson of the Milan Police Department will give the talk and provide handouts to help keep your identity safe. The event starts at 7 p.m. and is sponsored by RNA Chapter 20066. Light refreshments will be served.

Members of the library friends group and RNA Chapter 20066 are working on the library’s Summer Reading Program. The theme for this year’s program is “Scare Up A Good Book.” Sign up for the program begins on May 24. Various crafts are scheduled on Wednesdays from 1-3 p.m. at the Viola Community Center. The crafts are: June 9 - monster socks; June 16 - picture frames; June 30 - wind chimes; and July 7 - monster canister. The groups are hosting a free petting zoo on Tuesday June 22 at 2:30 pm at Miles Memorial Park. The awards party is July 9 at the library. The summer reading program is free and open to everyone from preschool through adult. Sponsors of this year’s program are RNA Chapter 20066, Farmer’s State Bank of Viola, Geneta Lee of Country Insurance and Financial Services, Viola Home Telephone, ReMax Country Crossroads Real Estate, Union Federal, Keith’s Auto Sales, Happy Joe’s Pizza, WalMart and McDonald’s.

These events are all free to the public.  Please call the library at 596-2620 for information on any of the upcoming events.
