Opal Roe to celebrate 90th birthday

Opal Roe will be celebrating her 90th birthday at an open house at the Mercer County Senior Center in Aledo on Saturday, Sept. 18, from 2:30-4:30 p.m.  

Opal was born Sept. 18, 1920 to Clyde and Birdie Stackhouse in Henry County. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1937 and attended Brown's Business College in Galesburg. She worked in Aledo at the Farm Bureau and was married to Donald M. Gray on Feb. 17, 1940. They had two children, Charles (Linda) Gray of Kennedale, Texas and James (Beverly) Gray of Aledo. Donald passed away in October, 1954.  

She then returned to the Farm Bureau, working from 1955-1959. Opal then became the bookkeeper for Aledo Unit 201 Schools. Opal married Ken Roe in 1971. She retired in 1988 from Aledo Unit 201 Schools. She was active in Aledo's Business and Professional Women and is a member of the College Avenue Presbyterian Church. She has been a member of the Mercer County Homemakers Extension for 60 Years.  

Opal has four grandchildren, Cindy (Peter) Seesellberg, Debbie (Curtis) Leffelman, Trudy Gray and Donald (Kathy) Gray. She has been blessed with eight great-grandchildren. Please come and celebrate at Opal's 90th birthday (no gifts).
