Bishop Hill Plans for Julmarknad (Christmas Market)

Julbock and tomten will be at Bishop Hill during Julmarknad or Christmas Market.

The holiday season will be opened the traditional Swedish way during Julmarknad, or Christmas Market, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fri. Nov. 26 through Sun. Nov. 28 and Sat. Dec. 4 and Sun. Dec. 5 in Bishop Hill.

The free events’ attractions include Swedish folk characters,

traditional Swedish holiday decorations and quality gifts for the

holidays to be purchased. There will be “Make and Take” workshops the first weekend only (Fri. and Sat. only) at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the

historic Steeple Building. A special holiday exhibit called “Going to

Grandmas” will be on display in the Steeple Building including a

holiday Lionel Train display on the first floor. Trains will be

running Friday, and Saturday; 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday; Noon to 3 p.m.

Schedule for second weekend; Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday; Noon to 3 p.m.

A Christmas Cookie Walk, with homemade cookies and baked goods can be purchased by the pound. It will be held the first weekend only Fri. Nov. 26 and Sat. Nov. 27 at the Colony School. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There will be a “Chocolate Walk” at the historic 1854 Steeple Building – 2nd weekend only; Sat. Dec. 4 and  Sun. 5  - 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Purchase quality chocolates made by expert area chocolatiers.

***Also this year children can visit with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 4 at the historic Blacksmith Shop from 10 am to 1 pm sponsored by the

Prairie Arts Center.

Don’t forget about this year’s Lucia Nights Fri. Dec. 10 and Sat. 11

featuring the Galva Congregational Ladies Bell Choir, the Peoria

Cooperative Academy Chorale, the Mountain Men plus much more!
