50th winter social of Mercer County residents in Florida

While February snows blanketed Illinois, 57 Mercer County residents and former residents celebrated the 50th consecutive Mercer County Winter Social in Plant City, Fla. on Feb. 12, 2011.

Outgoing president, John Sproston of Aledo, was honored for serving as president of the annual gathering since 2000, 11 years. Outgoing secretary-treasurer, JeAnne Balmer, also of Aledo, was honored for her  nine years of service since 2002. Her husband, Tom Balmer, served with JeAnne by organizing the meeting programs for the past nine years.

For the next year, Dallas Davenport, formerly of Viola, will be the president. His wife, Jeanne Davenport, graciously agreed to serve as treasurer. Ron Kenney, formerly of Viola, will serve as vice-president.

President Davenport announced that next year's Mercer County Winter Social has been scheduled for Feb. 12, 2012 at the Buddy Freddy Buffet in Plant City, Fla. There will be announcements in the local media next winter.

Additionally, reminders will be circulated next January to all former attendees. Any Mercer County residents, or alumni, are invited to attend, and may mail reservations to Dallas Davenport, 1005 17th Ave., Silvis, IL 61282. Join in!
