Louis D. Wagner to celebrate 80th birthday

Louis D. Wagner will be celebrating his 80th birthday April 23, 2011. Louis will be celebrating his special birthday on Easter Sunday with his immediate family.

Louis is the firstborn child of August Louis and Eunice Easter (Allen) Wagner, born in 1931 on the family farm in Eliza Township. He married Gertrude Eileen Lockmiller on July 27, 1951. Louis and Gertrude have: a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Nancy Wagner, who live on the Wagner family farm; a daughter and son-in-law, Miriam and Howard Hedlund, Rockford; a granddaughter, Jenna Wagner; a grandson, Wesley and (Heather) Wagner; and three great-grandsons, Colton, Dagan and Myles Wagner.

During his early life, Louis worked around the Eliza area and at the Rock Island Arsenal. From November of 1952 to October of 1953, Louis served his country in the Korean Conflict, as Master Sergeant, earning The Bronze Star Medal as Chief of Firing Battery.

Louis attended the University of Illinois, earning a BS in industrial engineering. He worked for Weirton Steel, Campbell Soup Co. and The U.S. Army as a civilian employee. Lou retired in 1992.

Aside from traveling extensively for his job, Louis and Gertrude traveled to Canada and 49 states in the U.S., often taking their grandchildren with them during summer vacations. In 1977, the Wagners moved from Savanna to their current home in Joy.
