Mercer County Relay for Life is Saturday

A balloon launch takes place during the Mercer County Relay for Life.

The Mercer County Relay for Life will kick off this Saturday, June 25 at 6 p.m. and conclude Sunday morning at 5 a.m. The event takes place in Aledo's Central Park.

“Cancer Never Sleeps,” is the symbolic phrase for the Relay. There is a goal to raise $47,000 at this year's Relay For Life. “We beat that last year, hopefully we'll make it this year,” said spokesman Greg Larson. “Every dollar we earn is a dollar they (The American Cancer Society) don't have."

?This is the eighth year for the event in Mercer County.

There will be crazy laps throughout the evening. Warren and Wesley is the prime entertainment. They will be singing or rapping songs about cancer starting at 7 p.m.

Larson said he was expecting more than 200 people to be on hand to walk for the event.

There will be a silent auction during the evening.

The Aledo Methodist Church will be selling a dinner att 6 p.m. Campsites will be selling items throughout the evening as well.

Lauren Reid of Sherrard will sing the National Anthem and Mollee Larson of Sherrard will be singing as well.
