A sign depicting the two mural project has been on display at the VFW for several months.

Work has begun on a two-mural project for the front of Mercer County Post 1571 VFW hall, located at 106 SW 3rd Ave., Aledo. Wednesday evening, Aug. 22, 2012, artists Michael Clark of Aledo and Bill Hueg of St. Paul, Minn. started prepping the two spots to the right and left of the front entry into the VFW hall by pouncing their designs onto the 31-inch tall by 15-foot, six-inch wide pallets for Aledo's newest wall murals.

"The subject matter was already selected," said Hueg, the St. Paul artist who designed the left mural showing a portion of the famous Iwo Jima flag raising from WW II.

The mural on the right is a depiction of the three soldiers seen at the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington D.C. Clark designed this mural.

Work will progress through Saturday's Antique Days, with visitors invited to come by and watch the artists at work.
